Head Referee

Montague, Michigan

Steve Clark returns to the Speedway, earning a place in the coveted six-timer club. In addition to his time at the Greatest Spectacle in Robotics, he served as a referee at Worlds in 2023–2026, as well as the Kalahari Signature Event. He boasts event credits at State Championships in the highly competitive states of Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. Coming from Montague, Michigan, Mr. Clark has spent 14 years involved with VEX Robotics.

Head Referee

Jackson, Tennessee

KaBao McCarver is returning to the Speedway for the sixth time. This will be her fourth-straight Speedway event as a referee. Throughout her ten seasons as a referee, she’s been a Head Referee at the VEX Robotics World Championships, Indiana State Championships, Tennessee State Championships, and countless other Signature Events. Her motivation to become a Head Referee was sparked because, in her own words, “she was a terrible spectator and an annoying mom.” She hails from Central Tennessee.

Richwood, Ohio

THE John Queen joins the four-timer club in 2026. He’s been a referee at seven World Championships and 30+ Signature Events, including the Kalahari Signature Event and the LAUNCH Signature Event — both hosted in his native Ohio. He’s also been a Head Referee at 15 different State Championships, including Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. When he’s not serving as a Head Referee, he is teaching himself Mandarin Chinese.

Greenfield, Indiana

Indiana's own Caleb Stoeffler is BACK AT THE TRACK for his second time as a Head Referee. This will be his sixth Speedway Signature Event, bringing years of dedication and expertise to the role. He serves as a Head Referee at the Indiana State Championships and was selected as a Head Referee for the Grand Finals at the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championships. His deep understanding of the competition stems from 10 years as a VEX Robotics competitor and driver, during which he competed at The First Running of the Speedway Signature Event in 2019.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Ellie Clark makes her Speedway Head Referee debut in 2026. Ellie boasts multiple credits in the VEX Worlds Dome and has previously served as a Head Referee at multiple signature events and state championships. A former V5 and VEXU competitor, Ellie is now one of the Midwest's most recognizable referees. When she's not making calls on VEX fields, she's a team member on Bloodsport, a combat robotics team featured on the hit show Battlebots.

Returning to the Speedway for the third time is JonDarr Bradshaw, a highly experienced VEX announcer who has appeared multiple times in the VEX Worlds Dome. He’s spent more than eleven years voicing matches and introducing teams. His previous event credits include last season’s Michigan State Championship, three LAUNCH Signature Events, and several editions of the VEX Robotics World Championships. JonDarr is a former military aviator who went on to work at NASA for nearly three decades. He leverages his professional experience and passion for STEM to help inspire the next generation of explorers and innovators. Mr. Bradshaw comes to Speedway from Cleveland, Ohio.

Considered by many to be THE VOICE OF ROBOTICS, Keegan Ohta returns to the Speedway for the third time. In 2024, Keegan Ohta brought the hype of the Speedway Signature event to a new level. Known for his commentating at the VEX Worlds Dome, he’s been an announcer for seven editions of the VEX Robotics World Championships, seven editions of the Hawaii State Championships, and the Pan-Pacific Signature Event. When he’s not announcing robotics matches, he is an esports commentator. Mr. Ohta will travel all the way from Mililani, Hawaii.

Ali Bessette makes her Speedway debut in 2026. A multi-time announcer in the VEX Worlds Dome, Speedway will be Ali's first-ever event in the Hoosier State. She boasts event credits at the Maine State Championships and the Lobstah Bowl Signature Event. When she's not announcing robotics matches, she's works at Elanco. She will travel from Augusta, Maine.

The Speedway takes judging very seriously. Our experienced Judge Advisors evaluate engineering notebooks, design process, and team interviews — ensuring every team's hard work is recognized against the highest Signature Event standards.

Sheldon has been a driving force behind the Speedway Signature Event since its founding in 2019, bringing both organizational vision and passionate sponsorship to every edition. A Indianapolis 500 enthusiast, Sheldon can name every Indianapolis 500 winner since he was born. He serves on the partnership team at Chrysalis Global and serves as the Chairperson of the Board of the Chrysalis Global Foundation. As a judge adivsor, his event credits include the VEX Robotics World Championships, multiple Signature Events, as well as the Indiana and Tennessee State Championships.

Gina Wade is in her fourth year of being on the judging team for the Speedway Signature Event. This will be her second year as an in-person key volunteer. In her ninth year of VEX Robotics, Ms. Wade is recognized across the world as a top-notch judge for notebooks. Her event credits include three years at the VEX Robotics World Championships, two editions of the Indiana State Championships, the Haunted Signature Event, and the Tennessee State Championship. Gina is from Tennessee.

New Palestine, Indiana

Fred Eyerman returns to the Speedway for the fourth time in 2026. Fred is responsible for all of the amazing visuals that you see at the Speedway. He brings decades of A/V experience to the Speedway and is the primary reason why Speedway's production capacity has expanded drastically over the years. Fred is considered a frontrunner for the Volunteer of the Year Award every year, but there's always concern that nobody else will know how to get the lower-third with his name on the screen to work properly when he's accepting the award.

Madden Waldman joined the Speedway production team in 2025. Previously, he was a competitor on team 338A, which won multiple Design Awards at the Speedway. As a production manager, Madden is responsible for executing the production plan for the Speedway. In addition to his work with the Speedway, Madden served on the production team for the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championships. Madden won the Speedway Volunteer of the Year Award in 2025.

Maine

Jacob Beaulier joined the Speedway production team in 2024. As the Speedway's Lead for Production Technology, Jacob executes the technical aspects of the Speedway (and fixes all of the things that David Wolfe Bender messes up...and there are a lot of them). Jacob has worked for the production team at the VEX Robotics World Championships for more than a decade. Things break at Signature Events; Jacob fixes them before you notice.
